The Dell Scholars Program

How to apply

Completing the online application is the first step to becoming a Dell Scholar. Once submitted, all applications will be assessed, and a group of Dell Scholar Semifinalists will be selected. Semifinalists are asked to submit a current copy of their high school transcript, a complete Student Aid Report (SAR) from their FAFSA, and an online recommendation. After the semifinalist information is submitted, all information is reviewed by an independent selection committee.

GW Women's Leadership Program

WLP is an acronym for Women's Leadership Program, which is an academic program that is carried for freshmen all the year through. As the name indicates, WLP is intended to look at issues that concern the leadership of women, from its nature to its expressions to how it is exercised in various areas.

WLP is organized in line with the curriculum at George Washington University where it is conducted. The study of WLP revolves around four main areas, namely, development (economics), science, politics, as well as arts & culture, each of which is taken together with relevant writing and humanities courses. And all the students who take part in this leadership program stay together in residence hall community at the Mount Vernon Campus of George Washington University.

In order to ensure relevance and harmony between the various courses, the WLP conduct regular meetings. And in a bid to associate the students with women in leadership positions from different areas, there are special events, guest speakers as well as field experiences.

Since WLP is conducted throughout the year at George Washington University, students enroll for classes every semester in order to take part in the seminars. The program conducted in each semester will have a slightly different emphasis.

Any woman in her first year (undergraduate level) at George Washington University qualifies to enroll in the Women's Leadership Program.

Each year we use a portion of the proceeds from revnues to award scholarships to outstanding high school or college students. This award is part of our ongoing mission to help students get into and pay for the college of their dreams. There are two ways to win the scholarship. First, you can create an account and submit your essay. If your essay is one of the top 5 vote recipients, your essay will be reviewed by a committee and the winner will be notified within 14 days of the close of the scholarship contest. The FiSCA National Scholarship Program is available to benefit deserving college-bound high school seniors from families in areas served by its members. Guidelines for Leonard Kaprielian Grants

The Sausalito Art Festival Foundation makes contributions, ranging in size from $500 to $10,000 (with some exceptions) to federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organizations. Preference is given to charities operating in Sausalito, that support or sponsor community events, art related projects, and programs that promote self-reliance and eventually self-sufficiency. Charities that are supported tend to:

Have low administrative overhead costs, relative to other groups in similar fields.
Utilize a large number of volunteers.
Encourage self-reliance and eventual self-sufficiency in those they help.
We do not consider telephone solicitations. All proposals must be in writing. They must include:
A brief description of your organization's mission, purpose, and primary programs, including whom you help.
A complete description of the project or program for which you are making a request, with a projected completion date.
Grant monies must be restricted to the project or program described in the application. Evidence of such must be made available upon request within one year of funding.
Evidence of your 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.
A copy of your latest financial statements (audited if possible).
A current operating budget.
A list of other funding sources with amounts given.
A list of your board of directors and their primary work affiliations.
Requests are accepted May 15 through July 14 (received by 5pm). If your proposal is incomplete, you may not be considered for a grant. It is the responsibility of applicants to make sure their proposal is complete. Please understand that we are able to fund only a small number of the requests that we receive each year. The Women’s Research & Education Institute (WREI) offers a fellowship program that places current or recent graduate students in the Washington, D.C. offices of Members of Congress and on House and Senate staffs. WREI Fellows work a minimum of 40 hours per week from January through August as legislative aides on public policy issues. WHAT’S NEW?

1) 2007/2008 Scholarship Applications: Nearly 1,400 were received in October, and are now being winnowed down to about 150 semi-finalists, who will be asked to fill out more extensive application forms for further consideration.

2) For Scholars Only: The winter meeting will be held at the New York Times, Thursday December 27, at 5:30 in the afternoon. There will be a seminar and discussion of the civil rights battles of the Sixties – followed by a party for all scholars, all ages.

History will come alive in a short video and longer panel discussion of exciting moments in the civil rights struggle. Arthur Gelb will lead the discussion with two of his former reporters: Gay Talese, who wrote from Selma during the dramatic voting rights marches in 1965, and Earl Caldwell, the only reporter at the motel in Memphis when Martin Luther King was assassinated nearly 40 years ago, who went on to cover the Black Panthers.

Scholars should go to the RSVP page and sign up to attend this event. There’s no limit on space, but we need your names on a list for security in lobby of the new building.

SciTech Scholarships provide up to $3,000 per year based on total educational costs (tuition and mandatory fees, room and board, and an allowance for books) to students who are enrolled full-time, for a maximum of three years (with certain exceptions for approved five-year degree programs).

To qualify you must:

* Be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
* Be a high school graduate.
* Be at least a sophomore who is enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree in an approved science or technology field at an approved Pennsylvania public or private college or university.
* Work experience/internships can be credit or noncredit.

Financial Aid for the Full-Time M.B.A. Program - Merit-Based Financial Aid

The Simon School assists qualified full-time domestic and international students in financing their management education and has been generous in awarding merit-based scholarships to those who show promise of achieving excellence at the School and in their careers. In awarding merit-based aid, primary emphasis is given to academic excellence, professional development and demonstrated qualities of leadership. Scholarship amount, if any, is given at the same time as the admissions decision. About 50-60% of students receive partial tuition awards. Full scholarships are very rare and extremely competitive. Furthermore, the School strongly discourages students from working while studying full-time, as the academic rigor of our courses and the time needed to conduct a career search is significant.

These awards are renewed in the second year, provided first-year academic performance has been satisfactory. To be considered for Simon School merit-based financial aid, the applicant needs only to complete the financial-aid portion of the application form.

Financial aid for international students is available, but limited, and candidates must consider the costs of financing an academic program in the U.S. International students are strongly encouraged to investigate funding sources in their home countries as early as possible. We encourage candidates to pursue additional funding through alternative sources, as this is usually necessary when making the commitment to attend a business school in the U.S. Loans may be available to international students who have been living in the U.S. and who have established credit history. University Fellowships Committee

The Boston College Asian American Scholarship was created in 1995 through the initiative of a group of students, faculty, and administrators, to recognize BC juniors whose commitment to academic excellence, to promoting Asian American awareness, and to serving both the Asian American and the wider communities on and off campus, is exceptional.

The Scholarship provides 75% of tuition for senior year. In addition, up to four finalists will be awarded $1,000 grants for purchases at the Boston College Bookstore.

All full-time, Boston College juniors who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The application process involves short statements describing academic and community service activities, as well as a longer essay asking applicants to reflect upon their roles as future leaders for the Asian American community. A selection committee composed of faculty members, staff, administrators, and students will review all applications, and finalists are selected on the basis of two main criteria:

Academic accomplishments as evidenced by strong grades, an ambitious selection of courses, and the integration of academic interests with personal goals; and
Participation in activities, on campus or off, that serve others and that help strengthen the Asian American community and its contributions to the larger American society.
To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents in the United States. The applicant's financial need is also a consideration.

All finalists will be invited to an interview with the selection committee in late March or early April. Announcement of awards will be made in the last week of April.

The Ron Brown Scholarship Program

The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card. Current college students are not eligible to apply.

Each year, a minimum of ten students will be designated Ron Brown Scholars and will receive $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000. The recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Ron Brown Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. More than 200 students have been designated as Ron Brown Scholars since the inception of the Program.

Ron Brown Scholars are selected in the spring prior to entering college. Applications are screened during the month of February by Ron Brown Scholar Program staff. In March, finalists are invited to participate in a weekend selection process in Washington, D.C. at the expense of the CAP Charitable Foundation. Finalists are interviewed by members of the Ron Brown Selection Committee and are expected to participate in several Selection Weekend activities. A past president of ASPRS, Mr. Robert Altenhofen was an outstanding practitioner of photogrammetry and made notable contributions to the mathematical aspects of the science.

Application

In addition to the application form and letters of recommendation, applicants must submit the following items:
A 2-page statement by the applicant regarding plans for continuing studies in theoretical photogrammetry.
Papers, research reports, or other items produced by the applicant that indicate capability in these fields.
Academic transcripts-- including a separate list of relevant courses taken with grades received.

Award Selection

The applicant who, in the opinion of the majority of the committee, has the highest overall ranking will be designated the recipient.
Each item above will carry equal weight in the committee’s consideration.
Obligation of the Recipient
The recipient is obligated to provide a final report to ASPRS of his/her scholastic accomplishments during the period for which the award is granted.
This report must be submitted by June of the year following receipt of the award.

If you are a beginning or amateur student photographer and searching for scholarships to help with tuition for college or photography workshops, please participate in our tuition scholarship photography contest!

MyParkPhotos.com will hold a competition to award one secondary or post-secondary student in 2008 with a tuition scholarship of up to $500. The award will be paid in two installments. One scholarship of up to $250 in the Fall semester and one scholarship of up to $250 in the Spring semester.

Scholarships are made possible through all member dues and donations.

A PHCC-approved apprentice program; or

Approved majors are: business management; construction management with a specialization in mechanical construction; and mechanical engineering.

Note:

(1) Scholarships awarded through the PHCC Educational Foundation are designed to assist students who plan to major in a field of study directly related to the p-h-c industry. If an applicant plans to pursue a course of study in one of the approved major areas listed above, but the trade school, college or university uses a different name for their particular program, the applicant should submit official documentation from their school that describes the major and course of study.

(2) To be considered a full-time student, applicants must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours of credit or the minimum number of credits required by the applicant's institution to qualify for full-time student status, which ever is greater.

The Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship, developed by the past presidents of AAHPERD to honor deserving students, is awarded to three undergraduate students and two graduate students in January of each year. All scholarships are presented at the AAHPERD National Convention & Exposition held in the spring.

Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarships

At Hy-Vee, we believe in cultivating the future.

Since 1969, we’ve awarded scholarships to both high school and college students through the Hy-Vee Foundation. Hy-Vee scholarships include $1,000 awarded to 40 high school seniors and $1,000 awarded to 40 college students - for a total of $80,000 available in scholarship monies. The scholarship award is payable in a lump sum to be applied to college tuition and/or room and board only. (Fees refundable to the student as well as entrance or application fees are not covered.)

To be eligible to apply for a Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarship, you may be pursuing any course of study but it must lead to a four-year college degree.

Scholarship awards are announced in early spring after the Scholarship Committee reviews applicant files and submits a list of winners to the Hy-Vee Foundation Board of Directors. The committee selections are certified by the board and winners are notified by letter. Public announcement of the winners is made in early spring in press releases and on posters sent to each Hy-Vee location. The scholarship is confirmed upon proof of college enrollment.

If you are a scholarship winner, you are free to accept any other scholarships and financial rewards. Please report any such awards to the Hy-Vee Scholarship Directors. Notification of tuition-free offers must be reported to the directors.

The Overseas Press Club Foundation is the 501 (C)(3) charitable oganization affiliated with the Overseas Press Club, which was founded in New York City in 1939 by a group of foreign correspondents to improve the profession of international journalism. The Foundation has a broad mandate to improve the media's understanding of international issues and to raise the quality of news-gathering efforts in covering the world. The most tangible expression of this charter is a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate students in American colleges and universities, who aspire to become foreign correspondents. The program began in 1992 and every year offers $2,000 scholarships to 12 talented student winners of a national essay competition. In 2006, the OPC Foundation began partnering with media organizations to offer internships. The Foundation pays travel and living expenses for interns in foreign bureaus. Three of this year's winners will have internships with Associated Press (Jerusalem), Reuters (Buenos Aires), and Cambodia Daily (Phnom Penh).

David W. Miller, a senior writer at The Chronicle of Higher Education, was killed at the age of 35 by a drunken driver in January 2002. 2007 Heywood Broun Award

Heywood Broun was a crusading columnist for the Tribune and The World in New York form 1912 until his death in 1939. He also wrote frequently for The Nation and The New Republic, as well as Harper's, Bookman, American Mercury and Collier's. He founded the American Newspaper Guild in 1933 and served as its first president

Although his first love was sports, Broun is best remembered for his reporting on social issues and his passionate championing of the underdog and the disadvantaged. "When a man has a conviction, great or small, about eggs or eternity, he must wear it always in plain sight, pulled down tight upon his forehead," he once wrote. "I see no wisdom in saving up punches for a rainy day."

Broun maintained a steadfast belief that journalists could help right wrongs, especially social ills. "I am a little sick and tired of being classed as soft, bourgeois and sentimental if I say that human brotherhood could solve overnight the problems concerning which men shake their heads ans say 'It's too bad but insurmountable'," he wrote in 1933. And in 1939, just a month before his death, he wrote: "I would like to see some columnists do the side streets and the suburbs and chronicle the joys and tragedies of the ordinary run of people."
